Membership

The first thing most people ask after they discover one of our remote base frequencies and listen for a few minutes is, “How can I find out more and perhaps become a member?" As simplistic as this answer may sound, the first thing we would suggest is for you to listen to the system. Listen to what people are talking about and truly decide if you desire to become involved in this type of operation.  The system offers a unique blend of both technical and personal discussions.

Remember as you listen, often members are talking to each other from various locations throughout the United States.  Therefore, if by chance you ask for a radio check or ask on the radio what repeater you are talking into, the answer itself may not be all that simple.  The person who answers you is likely somewhere else in your state or perhaps outside your state.  Therefore, please take time to listen first.

After you decide that Cactus Intertie membership is for you and such membership offers you the unique aspect of amateur radio that you desire, we suggest you listen for call-signs of the members talking to see if you know someone. With over 1000 members the chances are fairly good that you will. However, if you don't know any members, don’t be discouraged.  Many of our members are involved in and talk about amateur and other activities they are involved with.  Perhaps you can get to know them through the activities in your area.

Please understand; we are not trying to discourage anyone from requesting membership into our organization. However, we are seeking potential members who are committed to involving themselves and who understand what our organization is all about.  We simply don’t want anyone to join and then shortly thereafter drop out because they did not find satisfaction with our organization.  We want you to make the right decision for you and we want individuals who want to be involved in bettering what we do for both our club and the public service we provide.

The Cactus Intertie, Inc., as well as all of the affiliate clubs, are private, dues paying membership organization. In order to use any of the remote base radios within the Cactus Intertie System, you must be a member of either the Cactus Intertie, Inc. or one of the affiliate clubs depending on which area you reside in and where most of your operating will be done.
